I read this earlier and wondered how true it was. I will freely admit that I am not knowledgable on anything Muslim.
The Koran has online English versions. May read the whole thing over time. Not interested in reading it, but I just hate to be close minded without context.
Pesky literate contemporaries of Jesus screwing up the story. You would think good old Paul would have mentioned this. They where in the same part of the world at the same time.
A great resource for all rationalist. Funny how many topics are extremes popular among the elderly. If youth is wasted on the young, science is wasted on the old.
""This rare beauty is named Sapphire after the colour of his eyes....He is now living in a zoo where they hope he will prove a hit with the lady-tigers...Sadly just 30 of these Golden Tabby tigers are known to exist on the planet and there are none left in the wild," says photographer Alida Jorissen."
The real joy here is not the article but what came with it. There is a link to a PDF at the end of the article. I can't link directly to the PDF and it must be opened on the readers device.
Even more fun are the posted comments. Pissed off nerds!
Can't say as I understand all the comments with my limited knowledge on the subject, but the tones are so serious; it is a real "shit-show".
When people wonder about "why we are here", or "what life is about" I always answer to "we observe".
I feel a sense of calm when reading history and science far greater than anything ever felt in holy observance. The "why" is never ending. Humanity has only moved forward because the children of today have never run out of questions tomorrow. But society has always collapsed when asking why is suppressed.
The part about the arch of Constantine really is pretty odd.
If you read the wiki on Constantine it becomes clear that the versions of his life's story all disappear after his reign. All but the one Eusebius of Caesarea fictionalised. There are whole books on early church suppression of non Christian history.
Is it not odd that no Mithras traditions survived antiquity. They were a secretive cult, but not a single document from the educated roman elite or references from Seneca? Just saying.
Not a good match in the assyrian timeline, more likely a garden in ancient Beth Eden during the reign of Tiglath-Pileser III or Shalmaneser V. Fun thought just the same.
As I drove to Winn Dixie today I was in a real big down pour. A typical Florida sea breeze driven afternoon thunderstorm - not unusual for a Summer day.
It happened my iPod started playing Bob Dylan's ominous tome of social and political change coming to teach us a lesson.
It dawned on me that those changes never happened. Those rains never fell and they never will.
Bob was just another would-be prophet talking out his ass.
"TIL that scientists recently discovered giant viruses (as big as 1 μm in length), named Pandoraviruses. Because more than 93% of their genes resemble nothing known and their origin cannot be traced back to any known cellular lineage, scientists suggest the existence of a 4th domain of life"
